stacte (Stak´tee)

An ingredient to be used in preparing incense (Exod 30:34). The root meaning of the Hebrew word (“to drip” or “ooze”) has led some to identify it as the sap of the storax tree or the opobalsamum tree.

34The Lord said to Moses: Take sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum, sweet spices with pure frankincense (an equal part of each),
