Archelaus

Herod Archelaus, son of Herod the Great who became ethnarch of Judea, Samaria, and Idumea when his father died in 4 BCE (Matt 2:22). His rule was relatively short and disastrous. Both Jews and Samaritans petitioned Rome for his removal because of his brutal and insensitive rule. Augustus banished him to Gaul in 6 CE.
