Zed´uh-ki´uh; Heb., “Yah[weh] is righteousness”
1 The last king of Judah, who was placed on the throne as a puppet ruler by Nebuchadnezzar after his first conquest of Jerusalem in 597 BCE (2Kgs 24:17). In spite of the repeated warnings and criticisms by the prophet Jeremiah, Zedekiah rebelled against his Babylonian overlords (2Kgs 24:20; Jer 37-39; Jer 52). Jerusalem was recaptured and destroyed (586 BCE), and a bereaved and maimed Zedekiah was taken in fetters to Babylon (2Kgs 25:6-7). 2 A priest of Nehemiah’s time (Neh 10:2). 3 Two nobles of Nehemiah’s time (Jer 36:12; 1Chr 3:16). 4 A false prophet opposed by Micaiah, son of Imlah (1Kgs 22:11; 1Kgs 22:24; 2Chr 18:10; 2Chr 18:23). 5 A false prophet opposed by Jeremiah (Jer 29:21-23).
