Chemosh (Kee´mosh)

The national god of Moab. Solomon built a high place for Chemosh, the “abomination of Moab” (1Kgs 11:7; 1Kgs 11:33), which Josiah destroyed (2Kgs 23:13). In (Judg 11:24) he seems to have been the chief Ammonite deity.

1Kgs 11:7

7Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites, on the mountain east of Jerusalem.
