The third son of Adam according to the genealogy in (Gen 4:25; Gen 5:3). Seth’s birth seems intended to contrast with the debauched and violent line of Cain. The birth of Seth is said to coincide with the beginning of the practice of calling on Yahweh’s name (Gen 4:26).

Gen 5:3

3When Adam had lived one hundred thirty years, he became the father of a son in his likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth.

Gen 4:26

26To Seth also a son was born, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to invoke the name of the Lord.
