British painter Paul Nash joined the army at the beginning of WW1. After an injury he was sent home and commissioned as a war painter for the Ministry of Information. He returned to the Western Front where he documented the devastation of war. In Wire he focuses on the absolute destruction of nature caused by the wars of man.
