Gezer

Gee´zuhr; also Tell Jezer, Gazru

A fortified site eighteen miles northwest of Jerusalem. Horam, king of Gezer is said to have come to the aid of Lachish, whose king was killed in the battle on the day the sun stood still (Josh 10:1-34; Josh 12:12). After the division of the land, Gezer was located on the southern border of Ephraim, but the inhabitants were not driven out (Josh 16:3-10; Judg 1:29). Gezer was one of the cities given to the Levites (Josh 21:21; 1Chr 6:67). The city was later given to Solomon by the pharaoh of Egypt as a dowry for his daughter (1Kgs 9:15-17).
