hell

An English word used to translate (from Heb.) “Sheol” and (from Gk.) “Hades” and “Gehenna.” In Christian tradition hell is usually associated with the notion of eternal punishment, based on such texts as (Matt 5:22, Matt 5:29-30; Matt 13:42, Matt 13:50; Matt 23:33; Matt 25:41; Mark 9:43-45; and Luke 12:5). The book of Revelation describes a lake that burns with fire and brimstone in which the wicked will be eternally punished (Rev 19:20; Rev 20:14-15; Rev 21:8).
