Huldah

Huhl´duh

A Jerusalemite prophetess. She was the wife of Shallum, keeper of the (king’s) wardrobes during the reign of Josiah (639–609 BCE). Consulted by Josiah’s officials after discovery of a “scroll of Moses” in the Temple, Huldah prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem, adding that Josiah would die before the catastrophe. Huldah’s prophecy helped spur vast religious reforms (2Kgs 22; 2Chr 34).
