Jehoiakim

Ji-hoi´uh-kim

King of Judah 609–598 BCE (2Kgs 23:36). Previously known as Eliakim, he was installed as king by Pharaoh Neco in place of his younger brother Jehoahaz (2Kgs 23:33-34). Jehoiakim burned Jeremiah’s scroll predicting the victory of Babylon over Egypt (Jer 36:29) and subsequently became Babylon’s vassal for three years. Any prophet who dared to oppose Jehoiakim risked his life; Jehoiakim had Uriah killed, and Jeremiah put on trial (Jer 26).
