Rahab

Ray´hab

1 The harlot who sheltered Joshua’s men when they came to spy on Jericho (Josh 2). She helped Joshua’s men to escape in return for a promise that she and her family would be spared when the Israelites returned to conquer. In the NT, Rahab is cited as a heroine of faith (Heb 11:31) and of righteous works (Jas 2:25), and she is included in Jesus’s ancestry by Matthew (Matt 1:5). 2 The mythical chaos dragon whom God killed in battle, making an orderly creation possible (Isa 51:9; Ps 89:10). 3 A pejorative name for Egypt (Ps 87:4; Isa 30:7).
