A person who receives divine messages in visions or dreams. Visionaries existed in Israel throughout the history of the nation and were found particularly in Judah, where they may have been connected with the royal court (2Sam 24:11; Amos 7:12; Mic 3:7; Isa 29:10; Isa 30:10; 1Chr 21:9; 1Chr 25:5; 1Chr 29:29; 2Chr 9:29; 2Chr 12:15; 2Chr 19:2; 2Chr 29:25; 2Chr 29:30). The title “seer” is given primarily to Samuel (1Sam 9:5-21).
