Mary and Martha

He Qi, Mary and Martha, undated 21st century.

The Chinese painter James He Qi blends the bold colors and thick brush strokes of Chinese folk art with the iconography of the Western religious art. In this image three women are gathered together with offerings of food and drink along with the symbol of the descending holy spirit.

Mary and Martha-Qi

Associated with a deity; exhibiting religious importance; set apart from ordinary (i.e. "profane") things.
