  • Naomi Janowitz is Professor of Religious Studies at the University of California, Davis. Her particular interests are late antiquity and anthropological, linguistic, and psychoanalytic approaches to the study of religion. She is the author of The Family Romance of Martyrdom in Second Maccabees (Routledge, 2017); Icons of Power: Ritual Practices in Late Antiquity (Pennsylvania State Press, 2002); Magic in the Roman World: Pagans, Jews and Christians (Routledge, 2001); and numerous articles.
